PERHAPS HUMAN BEINGS ARE NOT BUILT FOR LONG TERM BATTLES

Most wars are over in two, three, four or five years thank goodness. To me war is the ultimate failure of common sense and reason. Show me the "winners" of the current Israeli-Palestinian conflict. 46,000 dead Palestinian men, women and children. Israel has lost thousands of lives albeit no where near as many.  Israel has spent millions upon millions of dollars blowing up buildings in Gaza. They are currently releasing allegedly hardened Palestinian fighters and "terrorists" from their prisons at a rate of about 200 to 1  i.e. one Israeli citizen or soldier for each 200 Palestinians.  Finally I suspect that decades of improved support and respect for Israel around the world may have been permanently harmed due to the numbers of Palestinian dead. How does that possibly make Israel the winner of anything?

Same with the war between Russia and Ukraine. Three years of bloodshed and sacrifice and Russia, a former top world power can't defeat dinky little Ukraine even with the Ukraine receiving weapons and ammunition assistance from abroad. Apparently Russia has the upper hand but the rest of the world has seen Russia's weakened economy, industrial base and military. Their reduced state has been exposed. Some win that is.

Closer to home look at Grassy Narrows as well as here in Elmira, Ontario. Local residents and citizens took to the streets, spoke up and demanded government fulfill their responsibilities. I am amazed at the resilience from the Grassy Narrows community as they are still fighting today. Elmira not so much. Many of the activists have died, retired or simply run out of steam. A couple  have become senile. Time as in decades has overcome resistance. The ones left were not here fighting back in the early 1990s. They too however want the whole thing to end. They want a happy ending which it appears isn't going to happen. Only capitulation to the inevitable seems to be the peaceful, final route. There is little to no fight left.

Time and delay are the weapons of the guilty. Every year that injustice and personal harm continues, resistance and fight seems to falter until almost nothing is left. Peace, even an unjust peace usually finally prevails. The victors pretend that the world is fine and the vanquished seethe waiting for another opportunity. The victories of the unjust come at a great cost to them as well as to the rest of us.
